Crafted Marketplace & Brouwerij Brewery

We had a beautiful break in the clouds for Eddie’s shoot at Cabrillo Marina capturing “Island Dancer” - an impeccable Perry 43 Catamaran from Australia for West Coast Multihulls.

I took advantage of the glorious weather to explore the local craft brewery Brouwerij West and Crafted Artisan Marketplace. Located inside a rustic 70 year-old Port of Los Angeles Receiving Warehouse within walking distance from the Marina, this place was such a great find!  Beautiful open air space with exposed wood, string lights, and live music stage. Food trucks lined the outdoor communal dining space while hip young urbanites sipped cleverly named mixed fermentation brews and chased their kids around the courtyard on bikes and scooters.

I’m an IPA girl, so I tried their beer flight and loved the Taught by Television Pale Ale and the Picnic Lightning IPA. Both hoppy and bright with hints of citrus and pine. So flavorful!  I wandered over to The Sugo Italian Food Truck and was greeted by the 30 year-old owner, Antonio & his wife Ginevra who moved here from Italy to pursue his dream of becoming the next Top Chef. He recommended the King Sugo Sandwich -  A huge pizza sandwich made with homemade bread, chicken, onion garlic and lots of provolone & parmesan cheese. Perfect comfort food to pair with my craft brew.

Next door was The Crafted Marketplace - an Etsy lover’s paradise with unique handcrafted wares from local artisans in a huge rustic event space that also offers workshops and classes. I chatted with one of the artisans who said the Marketplace used to be a lot busier, but many local residents have had to move out of the area due to rising rent and real estate. The people of San Pedro are definitely feeling the effects of gentrification as generations of families who immigrated here in the early 1900’s have to sell their homes to move inland for more affordable housing. The $100 million dollar LA Waterfront Renovation Project and the arrival of SpaceX seems to have expedited the gentrification process for this industrial beach community with no signs of slowing down.
