Catalina Day Sail

We were fortunate to have a break in the rain to have Eddie’s sister, Jane, and her family - John, Jayce and Beck join us for a sweet day sail out to Catalina Island and back to San Pedro. They had never sailed across an ocean before and were treated to fin whales that surfaced about 25 feet from our boat, playful dolphins and an army of sea lions on Ship Rock near Two Harbors. The Catalina hillsides were mysteriously misty and were incredibly lush and green after the recent rainfall. The winds kicked up late in the day, so we were able to sail all the way back to San Pedro at about 5 knots and enjoyed some hot toddies with warm grilled cheese and tomato soup while underway.
